Parent Involvement

Students with parents who are involved in their school tend to have better academic performance. Positive effects of parental involvement have been demonstrated at both the elementary and secondary levels across several studies, with the largest effects often occurring at the elementary level. A recent meta-analysis showed that parental involvement in school life was more strongly associated with high academic performance for middle schoolers than helping with homework.

Involvement allows parents to monitor school and classroom activities, and to coordinate their efforts with teachers to encourage acceptable classroom behavior and ensure that the child completes schoolwork. Teachers of students with highly involved parents tend to give greater attention to those students, and they are more likely to identify at earlier stages problems that might inhibit student learning. Parental involvement in school, and positive parent-teacher interactions, ha also been found to positively affect teachers’ self-perception and job satisfaction.

Contact the school today to learn how you can get involved.

HOME SCHOOL CONNECTION

It is the mission of Home School Connection to foster the partnership between home and school through family support and involvement in school related activities. Monthly meetings are held at 6:00 PM and offer an opportunity for parents to meet and plan activities for the children at Holy Family School.

Every family who has a child enrolled at HFS is automatically a member of the Home School Connection. Faculty, staff and administration are also members. Home School Connection provides special events such as Open House, family gatherings, speakers, projects of God’s Secret Service, scholarships to Camp Guggenheim, books for the library, and other events for families within the school community and participates in the Malone Chamber of Commerce Winter Carnival Parade.

SERVICE UNITS

Each year, parents of children in grades K-8 are required to complete a certain number of service units in helping to fundraise, i.e. repair, painting and other projects. These services help to stabilize tuition and keep it affordable for the average wage earner.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parents will be notified by the school regarding the date and time of the formal Parent-Teacher Conference, which is held at the end of the first and 3rd quarters. Report Cards will be given during that first and third quarter conferences. These conferences provide opportunities for communications between parent and the teacher thus enabling both to express the progress of the child.

Informal parent-teacher conferences are to be arranged by either the teacher or parent/guardian as the individual need arises. Parents are requested to notify the teacher by note or phone call to arrange a convenient appointment time.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Parents are welcome to bring in cupcakes or a birthday cake as a treat for the class when it is their child’s birthday. The long-standing policy of the school is hat invitations to birthday parties are not to be passed out in the classroom UNLESS EVERY CHILD is invited.
